This is the front of our building on Monday the 10th March 1997 The damage to the middle door was done during one of the 3 break-ins we had that week end.
A loose wire and a damaged fuel tank on this vehicle, started the fire that put Mark into the hospital with 2nd and 3rd degree burns and gutted me and the garage.
The fire wrote off 3 cars and damaged 4 others, the steel beam above it needed to be tested by a structural engineer, and everything around it was devastated, or burned to a crisp. How did the (plastic) front bumper and plate survive?
The front vehicle on the floor, exploded with such force, it drew in the Citroen behind it, smashing the front.of one and the rear of the other.
These photos do not do justice to the scale of damage, the flash photography gives everything colour, when in fact there was none. it was pitch black.
Black soot had covered everything with the result that, even with lights on it was still dark. The soot just absorbed the light.
